Economic activities and transactions cross over national borders, making transnational mechanisms of governance increasingly likely and necessary. Some have argued that global pressures are leading, on a worldwide level, to the increasing convergence of governance and organisational structures and of business knowledge or practices (Chandler 1990, Ohmae 1995, Scott et al. 1994, Alvarez 1998).
