Migrations. Countries of immigrants, countries of migrants. Canada, Italy

Abstract

This book presents two special cases related ton the phenomenon of migration: Italy and Canada. The phenomenon of migration highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the country. The figure of the immigrant (of the "foreigner") calls into question established practices, raises doubt about existing institutions, and challenges public opinion. The unfavorable economic situation that has characterized the last decade the international and especially the European level, and the gradual transformation of the profile of the immigrant population from transient economic migration to settled families with roots in the territory has given rise to a series of interpretations and positions that see in these foreigners as a threat to the status quo of receiving countries. As will be evident from the chapters in this volume, several interdisciplinary skills are needed to contribute to a 360° understanding of the immigration phenomenon, which is the first step in providing appropriate tools for decision-makers
