Regions of Russia : a Special Issue of Post-Soviet Affairs
Abstract
In her introductory article for this issue, Mendras includes reference to some of the more important literature on Russia's regions that has
appeared in recent years. But the purpose of this Special Issue goes beyond the addition of analytical insights and empirical information to a burgeoning literature. Our purpose is also to introduce many of our readers to specialists on Russia's regions who publish principally in Russian-language or French-language outlets. The four empirical articles in this issue were originally presented as papers at a conference organized by Professor Mendras at the Centre d'Etudes et de Recherches Internationales (CERI) in Paris in October 1998. They have been updated to include recent political developments in those regions, while Professor Mendras's article additionally cites work presented as recently as November 1999.
